Omar Afra

Consultant, Testset Media
Houston

Omar Afra is a Houston-based publisher, editor, writer, festival founder, civic moderator, and cultural entrepreneur whose work spans independent media, live music, festivals, ticketing technology, politics, religion, and cultural infrastructure. He founded and edited Free Press Houston, helped build Free Press Summer Fest, founded Day for Night, and later founded Testset, an editorial platform focused on media systems, live music, technology, politics, Islam in Texas, and the machinery reshaping public life. His current writing examines the live music crisis, including Live Nation, Ticketmaster, concert pricing, AI music, festival economics, independent venues, fan economics, and the future of concerts. He also covers Islamophobia, Sharia panic, religious freedom, media power, civic culture, and the way political actors turn minority communities into campaign props. Afra’s work connects lived operator experience with cultural criticism: building publications, festivals, debates, and public arguments while asking who owns the room, who controls access, who profits from culture, and what can be built next.
